Tuesday . April 26, 2011

Another day.
Another dollar.

Yep, just the same ole,
same ole.

Up early.
Much to do.

The early morning routine is always,
much the same.

Coffee, of course and the paper.

Computer time.
1st emails.
Facebook.
Blog post.
in that order.

Figure I'm in the home stretch now,
working @this blog post.

Having spent a quite, productive day
at home yesterday, I welcomed an
opportunity to meet up with my new
friend, Summer Hill Seven @my Studio
@9PM last night, then on to
Churchill Pub for a special
evening of Jazz.

Walking into Uva to go UPSTAIRS,
to my Studio, there was my trusty
Buddy, Kerry McLaney, holding court
with friends of hers, that I got
to meet for the first time.

Several of them joined me UPSTAIRS
for a tour of my space.

Summer Hill, arrived and we were
off to Churhill's.

What an operation that Churhill's is
too.
Haven't been there is years and
was amazed at the kind of business
they were doing on an otherwise
quite, Monday night.

Greeting us at the door was an
English Bouncer of sorts, collecting
the $5.00 fee to enter.

There were several venues taking
place.

First and foremost was the large
Jazz Band on stage.
Over 15 musicians gathered
together, making remarkable
music that had the place
rocking.

5 on Sax
5 on Trombone
5 of Horn
1 Drummer
1 Jazz Guitar

Summer Hill remarked that
in NYC you'd be paying $75.00
a piece to get in a place like this.

We sat at the bar and ordered
Fish & Chips.
Pleasantly surprised at how
delicious and authentic their
version of this is.
A bargin too, for a mere $8.00.

We were loving the retro vibe, harking
back to the 20's or 30's.

Out on the patio there was an
open mike, poetry event taking
place.

Total mix of people and cultures
all enjoying themselves.

It was going on Midnight by the
time we left.

This is probably the latest I've
been out, in ages. LOL.

That's the report for today,
folks.

Be the change you wish to see
today, as you walk the walk.

Do unto others, as you would
have them do unto you.

Respect yourself.

Pass it forward.

Peace and love.

Mellow Monday on Tap . 4/26/11

On my drive to Ft. Lauderdale
yesterday, a Lizard appeared
on my windshield.
With the help of the Internet
I learned that through myth and legend the
lizard is associated with dream
time.
"The psychic characteristics to
be found in the lizard, teaches
us how to awaken our abilities
by choosing one path over another."

One of many images being projected
during our gathering last night,
at Louise and Grant's home.

Artist Evo Love, in Studio
@her STASH Gallery, Saturday
night.
On the left is visiting Art Dealer
James Baird from Newfoundland
and Artist Billy Keat whose new
work was being featured.

Left to right @Stash
Romain Gateau, Louise Markus,
Evo Love, a friend and Julia Morton.

Poet Johnny O @Ladder Gallery
Saturday Evening.

The good news is, it's Monday morning and I'm still standing...

The days flew by last week.
With a tightly packed schedule, I am grateful for what I hope
will be some less structured, most welcomed, down time.

Saturday night was interesting in more ways than one.

For starters, I arrived @my Studio late in the day for a
6:30 PM appt. with an Artist I had met @Launch Market in
The Design District.

The idea being, we could have a brief visit prior to the
Literary Event scheduled @7PM downstairs at Ladder
Gallery.

No sooner than I got there, my buddy Kerry McLaney
appears.
Angelica the Artist from Launch Market was next,
right on time @6:30PM.
We were just settling in when there was a knock
on the door.

Surprise, surprise. There was was my good friend,
Mr. Bill Gorman, with his sister Cathy K., one of my
best friends for over 30 yrs. and her husband
Mark in tow.
OMG, I couldn't believe it.

Cathy K is the top producing Realtor in Winter Haven
and the surrounding areas,
They were unexpectedly in town for the weekend.

Marveling @ their timing (they were passing by
the studio and stopped in on the off chance that
I would be there).

So now we were 6 in my small Studio.

No sooner than we were all comfortably seated,
another knock @ the door and voile, here comes
Louise Markus and Grant Genoa with 3 friends
visiting from NewFoundland.

Are you keeping count, people?
We were now 11.

We all proceed to file in downstairs to Ladder
Gallery for their scheduled Literary Event.
We were shocked and dismayed that the featured poet,
Mr. Summer Hill Seven was a "no show".

I'm still wondering what's up with this?
I had just recently met this dynamic, brilliant
Published Author, Poet, Actor, Attorney and had been
promoting his appearance all week on Facebook.

Without missing a beat, T. Elliot Mansa, the Guild Artist
whose current show "Looking into the fish bowl"
is now @Ladder Gallery
greeted everyone (a packed house) and introduced
Poet John O.

John Oliver is a Miami native, who learned the value
of music and art growing up in Cutler Ridge.
It became a way of life for him.
In 2002, he became engaged in the arts of freestyle,
hip-hip and the writing of poetry.
He published his first book in 2008,
28 Triumphant Poems.
He has become a legend in the Spoken Word circles,
and performs at such venues as Speak and Stone Groove.

Performing many of his legendary works, we were
all rather spellbound.

Immediately following this presentation, I was
off to STASH Gallery, @ 162 NE 50th Terrace for
the opening of Artist Billy Keats newest
works.

In November 2009, STASH Gallery brought it's
popular and successful "Under the Bridge" show
from the outside, in.

6 yrs. previously, Artist Evo Love and Romain Gateau
rented a block of street meters from the City of Miami.
Their vision?
To create an open, out door, Art Gallery, literally under
a bridge @1st St. and NE 2nd Avenue in the Design District.

Providing music and refreshments, they managed to
produce a fully developed show.

Saturday night's opening was an example of how this
format continues to work for them.

With live music rocking the night away, we enjoyed
meeting Billy Keats and seeing his new group of work.

I was thrilled that my friends, Midtown Realtor
extraordinaire, Irene Dakota and her husband,
Photographer Michael Dakota had continued on
to Stash as well.

The appearance of Art Critic and Writer Julia Morton
and her husband, Writer James Pricer only sweetened
the evening.

Home safe and sound after midnight, I was grateful
to go to bed knowing that my Sunday commitments
were scheduled for late in the day.

By 4PM yesterday, I was on my way North to Ft. Lauderdale
for a Easter Barbecue Gathering @ Louise and
Grants fabulous home and studio's.

Grant was engaged in manning the fire, preparing
the feast that lay in store for us.
We all sat in a rather large circle in the backyard,
relishing the cool breeze and the sounds of nature.

True to their brilliant style, as the sun set a
remarkable video presentation began, unannounced
and projected on the wall of the shed outside.
The original mix of music playing and the unusual
and clever use of lighting, they had managed to
create and original art happening.

Being surrounded by loving, creative friends, sharing
great stories and good food, was the perfect ending to
an exciting week.

Never left till after 10PM and was grateful
to arrive safely home.

Ah, and so here we are folks, a new week ahead
of us.

What are your plans, goals, aspirations?

I'm looking forward to quite, uninterrupted
Studio time.

That said, I'm open to all the possibilities
that will doubtlessly present themselves as
the week unfolds.

With a grateful heart, I welcome this new
day.

Ever mindful that it's the journey, not the
destination that counts.

Peace and love.

Friday and The Living is Easy

Bobble Headed Dog made and given to me by 4 yr. old, Miss Taylor Smith : )The charming Peacock Cafe where we dined last night in Coconut Grove.
The Enchantress herself...

Taylor, replet in all things Auntie Myra...
Modeling new headband, gifted by me.

Yesterday was spent @home, taking care of business.

At 4PM I headed South, to Coconut Grove, for my monthly
Girls Night Out, with an amazing 4yr. old, Miss Taylor Smith.

Taylor is the Granddaughter of my beloved, dearly departed,
good friend, Sara.
Sara didn't live to meet this remarkable legacy her son
and daughter-in-law have produced, but I know her spirit
soars when we are together.

I consider it a gift to have this child in my life and delight
in nothing more, than imagining that she is channeling
Sara when we are together.

Having forgotten to get married or have children myself,
this is a particularly special time for me, too.

I play "Auntie Myra" to the hilt, lavishing Taylor
with tutu's, twirly skirts, (usually in shades of pink and
purple, of course)...and all kinds of accessories or accoutrements,
as I like to call them.
Headbands, barrettes, tiara's, handbags...
you get the picture.

Last night we went to a beautiful, newly opened, charming
restaurant in Coconut Grove called Peacock Cafe on
McFarlane Street.

We had the best of times...they even have a tiny table with
chairs, child size.
You can imagine how much this was appreciated
by my dining companion.

As a sit here now, early this Friday morning,
I am reminded of the familiar
refrain, "Thank God it's Friday.

For many, myself included, tonight
@sunset, signifies the beginning of Shabbot.

My Mother lights candles and says a blessing.
"Good Shabbos", is what she always says to me,
if I'm present when she performs this ritual.

I smile as I think about this.
How much this small act represents.

For Shabbot signifies a joyful day of rest.
It's two commandments are; to remember and to observe.
Shabbot is a time when we can set aside our weekly concerns
and devote ourselves to a higher purpose.

Although, I am not considered observant as a follower of the
Old Testament, I am grateful to have the memory of this
ritual, handed down, generation, after generation, to sustain
me the rest of my living days.

Long after my Mother is gone, I shall cherish this memory.

Several weeks ago I attended Phase 1, of Artist Naomi Fisher's Art Project.
A reenacted Isadora Duncan performance piece staged @Vizcaya
@6:30 PM, promptly, on Biscayne Bay at Sunset.

Could anything possibly, have been more breathtaking?
I think not.

Tonight I look forward to attending Phase 2 of Naomi's Art Project
@The Snitzer Gallery in Wynwood.

My plans for tomorrow, include 2 scheduled events.

A Literary Presentation @Ladder Gallery, downstairs from my
Studio @6900 Biscayne Blvd. in the Historic MiMo District.
SUMMER HILL SEVEN a brilliant published author, poet, actor
and attorney will be reading and signing from his new book
"Squircular" an Actors Tale.

Artists EVO LOVE and Romain Gateau have a show opening
at their STASH GALLERY, 151 NE 50th Terrace @ the same time.

I hope to attend them both.

So there it is.

Today, as I walk the walk, I shall be
mindful remembering, observing and devoting
myself to a higher purpose.

How my attitude and actions,
will be reflected back to me.

With faith in my heart,
I ask for restraint and grace.

Pass it forward, People.

Peace and love.

Third Wednesday of the Month...Must be Musing with Myra

Yep.
Musing with Myra, Installment #3, is scheduled for this evening @Wynwood Kitchen & Bar.
Yahoo!

Looking forward to a smashing success.

Is this wishful thinking?
I think not.

Becoming a seasoned player, as each month has passed into an other, I feel confident that when
it's all said and done, tonight will be a win win situation.

My love of people and The Arts comes together once a month, for this, my monthly Arts
Networking Event.

We'll be launching a live broadcast stream, via the internet.
In honor of National Poetry Month, I've asked everyone to bring a poem to share.

Looking forward to hearing what people have to say.

Shout out to The Miami Hearld for listing my event on page #8A in this morning's paper.

Had a memory making 2nd Sedar last night, up in Boca Raton with my Mother.
We were a table of 14. The delicious food was never ending and the reading of the Haggadah,
was particularly meaningful.

As I begin this day, I give thanks to the powers that be for all that is possible.

I shall hit the ground running.

No regrets.
No looking back.

Onward and upward.

Ascending The Arts.

And so it is this lovely morning.

Peace and love.

Tuesday . Count Down for Musing with Myra . 4/19/11

Good Morning World.

Putting out a call for help with coordinating a hopefully, smooth evening of Musing with Myra,
tomorrow from 6-9PM @Wynwood Kitchen & Bar.

I'm in need of a volunteer to greet people as they come in and man the "sign-in" table, making sure everyone signs the guest book and fills out a name tag.

I just posted this request on my Facebook Wall, hoping I'll get a volunteer.

Thanking anyone in advance for their willingness to pitch in.

This morning I will hit the ground running.

9AM appointment here in Hollywood, then on to meet up with the one and only
Kerry McLaney of Miami's Independent Thinkers who is the mastermind behind the concept
we hope to launch tomorrow night. A live broadcast stream, via my laptop for this 3rd Installment of Musing with Myra.

By 5PM, I plan on being in Boca Raton with my Mother for the 2nd night of Passover Sedar
at a friends home.

Whew, I'm exhausted just thinking about the challenges this day holds for me.

I am thinking too, how grateful I am to have this Blog and Facebook available as a way of reaching out to my awesome group of friends.

I am learning to ask for help. People are not mind readers. I feel secure in knowing that somehow the great Universe shall provide all that is needed.

With this in mind, I send out loving thoughts to each and everyone of you.
May your day unfold, opening windows you had no idea existed before.
This is what gives me the strength and courage to get dressed in morning and put myself
out there people.
If it works for me, it'll work for you.

Now put one foot in front of the other and get on with it.

Life is short.
This too shall pass.
Seize the moment.

Remember The Golden Rule,
"do unto others, as you would have them, do unto you".
Treat people, as you would like to be treated.

Make a difference today.

Thanks for staying tuned.

Good Morning Monday .

Tonight is the beginning of Passover.

This holiday celebrates the liberation of the
Jewish People and their freedom from slavery.
Moses said to Pharaoh, "Let my people go".

To all of you who are celebrating this Holiday,
"Hag Samaech".

Last night I was celebrating my Mother's
91st Birthday @Joe's Stone Crab's on So. Beach.

Joe's is a So. Fla. institution and is world class
in every way

We met up with old friends of my deceased, younger brother,
Jerry...Harry and his significant other, Gail a/k/a Mel.

From the stone crabs to the hash browns and cream spinach,
finishing up with the award winning key lime pie, it was divine.

I am blessed to have my Mother in my life and need to
remind myself of this every now and then.

I am grateful for another shared, sweet memory.

Looking forward to my monthly Arts Networking Event,
taking place this coming Wednesday at Wynwood Kitchen and Bar.

I have my work cut out for the rest of the week as well.

Keeping good thoughts, I wish you all a week filled with
new discoveries and much accomplishments.

Remember as you embark upon this new day,
that we are all spiritual people, having a
human experience.

With this thought in mind,
let your spirit soar.

Life is short.
Living it well,
is the best
revenge.

Peace and love.

Sunday . 4/17/11

And so it goes...
Another day, behind me.

9AM @Nissan Dealership
to pick up my new vehicle.

12:15 on my way
to visit with old friend @ his
beautiful house in South Miami.

Gotta love being greeted by
two beautiful, Golden Retrievers,
Savanah and TiBo.
Loving Pisces, the goldfish,
who now joins the mix.

We toured the grounds, admiring
all the award winning specimens of
bromeliad's, palms and who knows
what else.

One perfect gardenia was given to
me.

Be still my heart.

My favorite flower and scent.

By 7:30 PM I was @Ladder Gallery
downstairs from my Studio for the
2nd in a series of 8 Guild Shows
that opened last night.

T. Eliott Mansa was the featured
Artist.

The Guild is a group of eight artists,
curated by Ricardo Pau Llosa.
Sinuhe Vega, Ladder Gallery Owner/Director
and Ricardo are collaborating
in bringing this Guild Series of Artists
together through an
ongoing group of Gallery Shows and
Literary Events.

Saturday, April 23rd, 7 PM, is the next
Literary Event, featuring a reading and
book signing with the very gifted and talented
Author, Poet, Actor, Summer Hill Seven, who's
new book has just been published.

By 9PM I was @Evo Love and Romaine Gateau's
home for a Dinner Party they were hosting.
We were 10, all together for an evening filled
with the food, friends and laughter.

Just after midnight, I arrived safely home.

And here it is Sunday morning already.
Where does the time go???

9AM my indulgent, holistic massage.

5PM @Joe's Stone Crabs with friends
to celebrate my Mother's 91st Birthday.

What's on your agenda today?

Whatever it is, remember to practice
random kindness.

Don't judge your insides, by other
people's outsides.

Keep good thoughts.

All things are possible.
