What Were You Doing on The Last Day of February, 2011?

I don't know about you folks, but me, I was doing
the same ole, same ole.

Out in the community, connecting, reconnecting,
seeing new things, meeting new people.
Sharing another perfect day with friends in
the Wynwood Arts District.

Started the day, meeting up with my good friend,
Artist Leon Rosenblatt @ Andy Varat's remarkable
facility off St.Rd. 112.
Andy is head of a Garmento Empire, spanning
5 generations so far.
We go back to childhood together, when Andy
and his Sisters were growing up in Bay Heights.

The purpose of the meeting was for Leon
to make a brief presentation of his latest body
of work, STREAMERS, and the various applications
that would apply in the Garment World.

I was thrilled that joining us @the table were
Lois Varat Kandall, of A Nu Ligne, a flawless
line of 42 basics in 42 colors, sold @high end
boutiques, Internationally, her daughter Jody,
Andy's daughter, Michelle Varat, whose line,
Top Secret is all about under pinnings, and
Head of the dynasty himself, Andy Varat.

We spent time together, brain storming on
all the possible applications represented by
the brilliant process Leon has invented.

Joining us in the end was Leon's wife and partner,
the uber Zen, Spiritual Healer and fabulous
Tai Chi Practitioner, Stephanie Rosenblatt.

The 3 of us proceeded to, where else people,
but Wynwood Kitchen and Bar.

It was a sunny, perfect, So. Fla. day and
sitting in the Graffiti Garden was just what
was in order.

We dropped in to say hello to David Lombardi
The President of The Wynwood Merchant's Association
at his office across the street.
David is a major Real Estate Developer in Wynwood and
adjoining areas and I was curious to learn about rental and
purchasing opportunities for Studio/Gallery and/or living
space in the Community.

Leaving Leon and Stephanie in good hands, I was off for
my 4PM chiropractic adjustment with the fabulous
Dr. Romero.

Heading North up 27th Ave., I stopped in on Joey Caban,
Evo Love's Dad. He's keeping an eye on their place while
they're up in NY showing @Fountain Art.

At this point, I recognized that to push myself further,
by attending an event @Aventura Mall with MOCA's
Bonnie Clearwater and Turnberry/Aventura Art Collector,
Jackie Soffer, would prove to be too much for this old
broad. : )

Arrived home safely and feeling good, having accomplished
so much in a day filled with beauty, love and surprises.

Stay tuned.

  2. my, how I live vicariously through you....
I was returning from an overnight in Chicago, where I went to The Elbo Room to see many chick bands play. needless to say, Sunday was an extremely late night and I needed yesterday to recoup!

  3. Here's an interesting (and close to my heart) event. On March 6th from 5pm to 7pm, The Woman's Club of Coconut Grove will hold The Young Artist Gallery. More then 30 participating public Dade County High School Students show/sell their art. Dolly, Joyce & I started this Event 9 years ago. In the past, they have had it during the Coconut Grove Arts Festival. I am very sorry to see that didn't continue. But happy to see that it is continuing in whatever form and thank Dolly for that.
Dust off some of your old Grove friends - and go!
